EVA'S PRIDE STORY
ABOUT AVA
"When I transitioned, I went to visit my sister in Chicago. I got braids, got an affirming, new look - and I came back as Eva."
When Eva got braids, it was more than a hairstyle. It was an affirmation of her identity as a woman. To her, undeniably and powerfully feminine. As a digital media manager for the Marsha P. Johnson Institute, Eva’s work is making the world a #beautifuLGBTQ place for the transgender community. We’re proud to celebrate Eva and those just like her.
What Does Transgender Mean?
"An umbrella term for people whose gender identity and/or gender expression differs from what is typically associated with the sex they were assigned at birth. People under the transgender umbrella may describe themselves using one or more of a wide variety of terms - including transgender. Some of those terms are defined below. Use the descriptive term preferred by the person. Many transgender people are prescribed hormones by their doctors to bring their bodies into alignment with their gender identity. Some undergo surgery as well. But not all transgender people can or will take those steps, and a transgender identity is not dependent upon physical appearance or medical procedures." - GLAAD
